Meanwhile, the residents of Koh Mak have taken possession of a brand 52 foot catamaran, the 'Nemo Express' which is powered by a 700HP diesel engine. Scheduled services haven't yet started but it is envisaged that the catamaran will be initially used for day cruises from Koh Mak to outlying islands including Koh Chang. Then, due to it's stable dual-hull design, the ship will also be used during the off season when rough seas often make speedboat travel between Koh Mak and the mainland uncomfortable for passengers and potentially dangerous. The catamaran, which was designed and built in Pattaya, has been designed to seat up to 72 passengers and facilities onboard include a western toilet and showers. It is fully insured with life jackets provided for all passengers and safety features include CCTV which is monitored by the captain on 4 LCD screens in the cockpit.
